My search didn't turn up any good pictures of how this should be installed.
Does the stripping go under the chrome or;
Over the chrome?
The rubber seems too long to fit well underneath.
BLAIN
Goes under on my 70. Don't know if they're different. Going under makes sense, water will flow down the chrome and onto the rubber. Going the other way would seem to create a spot for water to get behind the weatherstrip.
Hi,
I believe the end of the weatherstrip needs to just abut the chrome trim. The angled area at the top of the weather-strip needs to be free to make a seal with the roof panel weatherstrip at that point so can't be 'trapped' too much.

Alan

I just took a look at my 70, in daylight. There appears to be a bevel at the end of the halo (think that's the term for the trim). The end of the strip tucks only slightly under this bevel. The trim does indeed sit down tight on the fiberglass. Just a small bit of overlap.
Going under makes sense but I'm not sure what to do with the extra inch or so...
Blain
I've never changed this weatherstrip before so I can comment on only what I see.
It appears your replacement tapers down on the end where it abuts the halo. It would seem this end would be left as is, the tip abutting the halo, fitting slightly under the end. Take a close look at Alan's photo. I think he's right as to how it fits.
Will this leave too much length on the bottom?
Maybe talk to support at the vendor you bought from?

Corvette America is the vendor. I think I'll give them a call.
If I tuck it up under by just what fits- 1/4" or so, the screw hole in the "dog leg" will be about 1/2" low. Weatherstrip is too long or someone did a chop on my top
Blain...the weather strip goes under the chrome and tucks up into the 45 deg. body at the top. Note; that the removeable T top panel weather strip mates up with the vertical door strip. If you place it to low you will leave an opening between the top weather strip and the strip your installing (not good). At the other end (bottom) the weather strip should also mate up with your door weather strip. The top and bottom should touch both the mating top panel striping and door striping snuggly to seal.

Reason: missing word
How far under the chrome strip does the rubber extend? I see the 45 deg. taper is only 1/4" or so. When I place the bottom at the screw hole the top has about 1" overlaping the chrome.
Hi Blain,
Originally NONE of the weatherstrip went under the chrome trim moulding.
There were various changes in the configuration of the bottom of the weather strip over the 68-82 years and thus how high or low it mounted.
Do you have the right strip for your car?

Alan
Blain, you should definitely check to see if you have the right strip. Having the right, I find the best way to line up the strip is to place the strip in with the T top on and the door closed and check the contact with the T top weather striping and the door weather striping. Make sure you have contact with both evenly (center it in between). You can mark a center line on the strip and the car with a wax crayon. Take off the T top and open the door and glue and set the strip in place and let dry. The screw hole should line up. What's important is getting it lined up right top to bottom.

Hi Alan
Great pictures as normal.
Is the vertical stainless channel the weatherstrip attaches to meant to be stainless or painted satin black.
Yours look satin black and mine looks like it may have once been painted black.
Hi Blain,
I posted a picture of my 71's strip earler in this thread. The strip just butts up against the chrome trim.
I can't say what later years did, but I can't imagine trapping the seal under the chrome trim because that would limit it's ability to meet with the seal on the roof panel.

Alan

The strip should abut the chrome trim. It may appear to be slightly under the chrome strip abutting the beveled edge but NOT trapped between the fiberglass and chrome in any way.
