Default 75 electrical problem ?

75 with auto trans. starts no problem but when I go to put it in drive starter starts trying to engage. does not do it in neutral or reverse. Also with key in on position not running moved gear shift to drive and it tried to start. Would this be a bad neutral safety switch ? Any help please.

thats where i would start looking, sounds like it is shorting internally. and getting power from somewhere to the solenoid.

Unplug the seat belt bypass relay under the hood on passenger side and see if that stops it.

I would check the shifter linkage under the car to see if the silinoid wire is shorted when the shifter is in D. neutral saftey just opens the circuit not engage the silinoid.

Also try disconnecting the seat belt interlock relay in the console after the car is started.
