Default 1973 Horn Relay

Think I have a faulty Horn Relay, normally I would just buy a new one and be done with it. But is seems 1972-73 had a unique horn relay, and can find one who has one in stock if they even list it. Open to suggestion…..

If your not having the car judged just wire in a later model relay and tie all the power wires together. Key buzzer will be gone ...... I hate that buzzer !

Label the wires and terminals; remove the relay from the car; bend back the tangs on the top cover and remove it; look at the wires and contact points. If there is a melted/broken wire, replace it. If the contacts are burned, corroded, or even welded together, just do what you need to get it functional. Then file or sandpaper the contact points, put some dielectric grease on them to keep them from corroding and button it all up. Reassemble it and try it out. If it works, keep using it. If it doesn't, replace it.

I had the same problem with the original relay in my '72. So I sanded the contact points and it worked fine after that. I replaced the rubber inserts that hold the relay to the fender and they're a PITA to snug up sometimes. Weird thing is, some vendors sell them in packs of 3, when you only need 2.
