the power window in my 81 won't move. Press the switch up or down and the lights dim and you can hear the vent fan slow. But if I put battery charger leads directly on motor (motor is less than 1 year old) the window goes up and down just fine.
My first guess is bad contacts in switch. Does anyone know other areas on the 81 that might need checking?
There are 2 phillips screws, one at the top and bottom of the switch. Remove those and the switch is loose. Pull the switch off the plug (might take a good pull) and you're set.
I recently had the same problem with my drivers side window. It ended up being one of the emergency brake console screws had touched the wire and shorted it out. Removed the screw and it worked fine. Needed to tape up the wire to seal it.
contacts burnt. took it apart. The shrink wrap jamed around the bottom shows I am not the first to make this repair. With a little luck and JB weld I will still make the local show saturday. With a chance of rain, not way I was going with a window that would not go up even if it was just the 7 miles from home to the middle of town.
Hey Dburg, check out this forum/thread from the cac. I bookmarked this a while back, because I figured I would need it one day. Maybe this can help, maybe not, but worth a read. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...-switches.html
Let us know.
Sort of wish my car had manual crank windows.
Both were bad. My guess is the heaver draw of the failing motor burnt the switch. Both switches had been pried apart and glued back before. New switches, motor and gear and it's good to go.
This is motor #4 in this car in the last two years. 1st was original, 2nd was bought as a replacement from Advance. It failed inside warrenty and got another (#3). That one has now failed and I went with OReilly. They probally all come from the same place, but maybe.
