Tips for installing long tube headers on a C3
Just wanted to share some of my observations from installing a set of Headman long tubes on my 75, that may be of use to others.
I've read countless posts in doing my own preparation reseach of how easy it was to install headers in a C3. "it's a couple hours of work", "they slip right in" etc.
Well for starters not all C3's are the same in terms of engine options, tranmissions and auxillary components over the years, so before you jump into this job thinking it's a walk in the park, here are a few notes.
Mine is a 75, 4-speed, with power steering, and A/C.
Soak the manifold bolts with PB Blaster or some penetrating oils for a few days prior to help loosen things up especially if the manifolds have never been removed.
Remove comonents. On the drivers side i is easier to install the header from below if you remove the following components: Alternator, dip stick tube, spark plugs and z-bar clutch assembly if a manual tranny.
On the passenger side it is helpful to remove the spark plugs and the starter.
While you are in there and the exhaust is out it's a good time to replace motor mounts an address other items.
Other notes for preparing for the job, get your reducers and exhaust flex pipe to make the union to your exhaust as the headers won't line up otherwise.
hope these tps help
Yup, just a bolt in

Another thing to mention is modifying the AC compressor mounting bracket to fit around the header tubes is you have the old A6 compressor. Hooker makes a steel mounting bracket that can also be used in lieu of modifying the stock one.
Best to all doing this job, it will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on what you encounter.
hahaha nothing is ever simple and once you start something you always get the " well while i have this out i might as well..." and that list will go on until your out of money
