Starter / Bellhousing Problem
I just installed a new 621 Bellhousing (Kiesler) along with a new 11'' clutch and 168 tooth GM flywheel on a 1972 350 base motor. I also purchased a new starter (Delco) for a manual trans. When I turn the motor over by hand the ring gear on the flywheel is rubbing on the starter housing. I tryed starter shims which gives me clearance but when I test the solinod the starter gear gets stuck in the flywheel. Any ideas?

The correct starter for 350 or 454 engines is a staggered aluminum nose 'ie' a diagonal offset for 1972`s.....whether standard or auto trans...they are both the same as OE parts

Use the starter for a 1969 427 4-spd. This is a cast-iron-nosed starter with a chamfer on the iron nose. It will line up correctly with your large flywheel, 621 bellhousing and 350 block. You can get one from NAPA.
