After a long two year stint as a Corvette owner, I am back to being a Corvette owner AND driver! Got tired of trying to fix the 383 I bought so I took some downtime (2 years!) from my car and this forum, it got me depressed and angry reading how much fun everyone else was having and I just had a giant piece of platic and metal with a car cover on it! I decide to order a GM universal longblock crate engine so I would have a back up engine when I get around to fixing and putting the 383 back in.
I have to say, I was suprised at the power of this somewhat inexpensive engine. The engine was delivered to my office/plant for under $1,400 and come with a 3 year/50,000 mile warranty so I think I'll drive it 2 or three years before going back to the stroker. Of course I had to put a little bigger cam in it (don't tell GM!) and it pulls pretty good but nothing compared to the 383 when it ran. If anyone is looking for a good short term or back up engine, I would say this is a good one for the price.
