Default Replacement Bellhousing

I have a 1973 with an L82, 4 speed Muncie tranny with an 11" clutch and a busted bellhousing. I have found posts that indicate that this is the correct bellhousing for my application:

3899621
'66-'74 BB
'73-82 SB
Aluminum
11" clutch
168 tooth flywheel
(Identical to 3872444)

First can anyone confirm this and second does anyone know if GM replaced the part with "464697"? I found this posting on a Chevelle site that seems to indicate that you have to be careful

"YES--------------------------------------and no.
The BELL HOUSING casting is the same for all 464697s. Here is where the difference is. Turn the housing around and look at the INSIDE. On a 697, the boss for the ball stud is oval, like this 0. If the hole (for the ball stud) in this oval boss is at the upper part of the oval, you're in luck!!! It will work like a champ. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, if the hole is in the lower portion of the oval, it won't work. With the exception of this oval boss on the inside, the 697 housing is identical to the 621 housing. It is a perfect fit. The 697 came out somewhere in the later 80s and this oval boss allowed the housing to fit several applications simply by drilling and tapping threads to position the ball stud so that it could be used on several different vehicles. It was also a service replacement and was available from Chev parts dept under 2 different part numbers, one part number for an upper hole and another part number for the lower hole-------------but it was the same casting!!"

I have an opportunity to pick up a good condition used from ebay one but wanted to see if anyone can confirm that these are actuallythe same part. Any help is appreciated!

Jim

try these links, no mention of 464697

This will help you determine difference between vette versions and newer version

Version #1 as near as I can tell was a replacement to the "3899621". In fact "621" is cast on the clutch fork stud boss
Version #2 is specific to the 1978-87 A & G body, and has "697" cast into the stud boss and can only be used with the 14007356 clutch release fork.

Thanks, last night while I was digging around on the internet I found this link which is really good about explaining the differences.
