The probability of having no rubbing of the front wheels with 255's on a '71 is less than 50%. Why do you need such wide tires on the front end? You can put 235's on it with no problem and 245's will work on 80% of them. Why not put 235's on the front and 255's on the back?
Hi jb,
7T1's info is right on.
BUT, remember with the 60 series tire when you drop below the 255 size the diameter of the tire becomes smaller than the original tire... F-70-15. The 235 60 15 doesn't fill the wheel opening in the same way as the original... this bothers some people.
Check the tire dimension charts and you'll see the differences.

thank you for the reply. i'm mostly trying to get a good looking ride height. i installed an 8 inch lowering kit and running p255 60 r15 in the back. the rear end is still jacked up a bit more than i like so i was considering running 245's in front if that would work. now i'm have 225's in front and 255's in back. 255's scare me in the front. thanks
