Default PS control valve to center link?

I'm rebuilding the steering on a 72BBC vette I'm restoring and have a question about how the power steering control valve mounts to the center link. When i removed the centerlink and control valve I noticed the control valve moved around. Is this correct? Or should the control valve be good and tight on the center link? Thanks

there is a bolt on the valve which clamps it tightly to the center link

With no pressure in the system the ball stud will move around.

The control valve is 'screwed' onto the threaded end of that link. It is threaded all the way on, but if you aren't in position when you get to the end of the threads, you can back up a 'round' to put it in proper alignment. To make the install easier, spread the bolt lugs and put something {screwdriver bit, etc.) between them so there is no binding on the threads. Then remove the 'spacer' and put the bolt in and lock it down. The AIM shows exactly how to position it and the fluid lines for all to fit and operated without interference/binding.
