Default Ignition wire routing???

Was wondering if the ignition wires for cylinders 1 and 3 are supposed to route through the engine mount bracket assy?? Checked the AIM and the picture is clear as mud.

Changing the wires and I don't see how they're going to fit through there, and the new Taylors' would be even more fun if that is how they're supposed to be routed.

Or is there a trick I don't know.....

Hi r,
Yes, originally those 2 wires do pass through the motor mount. I believe it's easier to get them in place by feeding the distibutor end through the mount and running the wires to the rear of the engine.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan

That's what I was afraid of...

I'll try feeding the distributor end through the mount bracket....Who at GM thought this was a good idea??

To add insult to injury the Taylors that I bought do not fit the towers on the distributor.

I have a set of stock wires so I can get her going but grrrrrr.......I hate doing s@#$ twice.

Hey....it's no problem at all to run those plug lines--while it's going together on the engine assembly line. Oh, plug wires #2 & #4 do the same thing on the other side.

if you're putting on new wires why don't you get some nice looms while you're at it and make it look good. made for you has some really nice ones that are reasonably priced.

Got her going. Even had a little time for a spin through town. Makes it all worth while.

In really small print in the service manual it said to get your wife with small fingers and more patience to push the wires through the mount.

That factory shielding is nice for keeping it looking good but what a PITA. I may go over the rocker covers when I get the headers on this winter. And yes I will definitely get some nice looms if I go that route. For now the factory looms and clips are still intact, amazingly.

Hi rWI,
You need to buy your wife a box of disposable latex gloves from the paint department at Lowe's. You might even wear them on occasion!

Alan
I would have to agree, but probably go nitrile (wife's allergic to latex).
What I should really do is pull the drivetrain, clean it and fix all the leaks. I've been sloowly working on it in the car, but it can be a PITA. The next major offender is the timing chain cover......this winter.

It's definitely called a hobby for a reason.

Again thanks for the help.
