Default 1968 Mystery "Light"

I have a new to me 1968 that I am "putting back together". The center console has a red light called something like "wiper disable" that is under the "Door Ajar" light. My understanding is it comes on when the wiper disable switch under the steering wheel is used to park the wipers for blade replacement. Does anyone know how the light is hooked into that circuit. It does not show in any schematic I can find.

I had a '68, but I don't recall it having that feature. I suspect an owner rigged one up because he/she left it switched off once and had one helluva time figuring out why it didn't work.

I believe it says wiper override and that it lights up when the wiper override switch is turned stopping the wiper arms so the wiper blades can be changed.

I didn't think 68s had that warning light, but they sure as heck should!!!! Because, if you leave the wiper park switch on it will drain your battery even if the engine is off and key out of the car. It is designed to work that way.

That is interesting John, both my June built '68s have this lens.

Sounds like you're keeping busy John.

I thought I had all these '68 oddities figured out! Now we need to narrow down a change date.

I don't know if I'll get to it in time to answer the OP wiring question but I need the remove that damn bezel again someday.

My Dec car has that but it is covered by a black cap. I seen it when I had the lens off of the guage cluster for cleaning.

Your lens said wiper o'ride but had a cap over it? I love these '68s.

Yes it did. There was also a cap over the low fuel lens. The same black cap covers that one also.

William,
Can you post pictures of you gauge bezel? I thought the low fuel light didn't come out until later in the C3 series.

Is your bezel smooth or does it have a pebble-like finish?

I could but it's all put back together. The wiper / fuel lens are now capped by the black caps. The bezel is smooth.

I had to check mine just to make sure I wasn't going nuts! Seatbelt light on the left with a turn off button underneath, door ajar on the right with a black square underneath. (Neither work btw)

Whitehause and PRNDL,

What are your build dates?

So far we have Dec. set up like both of yours and both my June cars with the o'ride light.

PRNDL, Have you checked into why the lamps yours has don't work? I know when I re-installed my seatbelt light button I push the clip on too far and that keeps the light off. I'm going to fix that one of these days, I just hate the thought of taking that stuff apart again.

You guys need to get this all sorted out so I can make some good notes on my diagram.

Seriously though I have a "seat belt lamp" with a single black wire that dead ends into the bulkhead connector - no wire on the engine side
