Default Radiator Removal

Need to remove the radiator from my 70 LT-1.

Can anyone shed any light on the procedure to remove the shroud? I have removed the two conspicuous bolts from the metal plate that attaches the shroud to the radiator support at the top. I also see 3 small (5/16th head) screws into the lower part of the surround (about 3 o'clock; 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock). Does the fan clutch need to be removed to make room or once the shroud is free can it slide back over the blades? Are there any tricks to making this easy?

Thanks!

Remove the fan and clutch, unbolt the radiator support inside the front wheel wells. Tilt the support and rad forward. Lift shroud out. It helps if you have the hood off.

Hi mym,
1970 LT-! NICE!
Beyond BKb's info I'll only add that I believe it's a good idea to tape a piece of cardboard to each side of the core to protect the fins both coming out and going back in.
Regards,
Alan

Plus, have a helper. One of you on each side.

If I remember right, I remove the hood, tilt rad support forward, remove fan clutch ,tie the shroud back, put cardboard on both sides of rad, remove right front A-arm bolt, then slide rad up and out.
Sorta what the others are saying but with some extras.
As I remember it you can't get the shroud out with the rad in the car.

All good info.
Cardboard for sure.
Just put several holes in mine taking it out. Cardboard to put in saved it.

Thank you for the advice. Certainly sounds more involved than when I removed the radiator on my 67 435 about 10 years ago.

The radiator has a small leak from the core that only starts leaking when the car is shut off after getting up to temperature from running. I assume this means that the pressure build up from the temperature increase after shutting down initiates the leakage.

Is there any alternative to fixing this absent removal of the radiator and repair or replacement of the core?

Thanks again for all the info and tips.

That is how I just did my 73. It sure worked easier than messing with the core support.
