Default strange electrical part

just joined and working on first 1972 corvette repair, repairing wiring in dash be a mechanic over 25 years and would like to shoot the butchers who worked on this nice car. cut and spliced wiring all over the place. ok i vented. i have found behind pass. side dash a silver part thats pluged in wiring spliced into factory wiring of light sockets, pink and black wires (2) it looks like a old style starter for flourescent (sp) lights it has spade ends for the wires, i have a 1971 car not butchered it is not a factory install on this car, this car is a one owner. 1972 do not know history. i have books and wiring diagrams not found. thanks if anyone knows what this is, not looking like the seat belt warning buzzer

Turn signal flasher? Don't know about the other year models but the turn signal flasher on my '73 is found behind the passenger dash (the hazard flasher is plugged into the fuse block).

If this is a cannister mounted to the brake pedal linkage and is connected via some blue splice connectors, it is a radio noise suppressor (filter) capacitor and it DID come from the factory that way. Chances are the capacitor has long since "bit the dust", but it does no harm in the circuit. (It may do no 'good' if it is kaput, though.)

If you get no static (EMF ignition spikes) noise in your radio, don't worry about it.

That part is a time-delay relay for the seat belt warning light, and it was factory on early '72s, they went to a contact in the seat belt retractor on later '72s. My 72 is number 456, and I had it in my car.

When the ignition was turned on, the relay contacts closed and the warning light was lit for a brief period of time, and then the contacts would open and the light would go out. It would happen every time regardless if the seat belts were done or not.
