I am new to corvettes, and just purchased my first C-3 corvette. It has been driven very little in the last 5 years (the owner says 300 miles) but has been stored in a garage under cover. The car runs and drives fine so I am not too concerned, but what should I do prior to driving it somewhat reguarly? The oil and filter have been changed annually. I know to look real closely at the belts, hoses, brakes, tires and such but are there any items I should look at closer being a corvette?
Rear end fluid
Grease anything that "pivots", suspension points etc.
check to see that the heater core isnt plugged with any "goo", Remove the hoses and flush out with gentle garden hose pressure.
make sure the wipers work, "just in case".
rinse out the rad as well, dont forget the AC rad if so equipped.
Hi Tim,
CORVETTE NICE!!!!!
There's been a lot of talk about tires that look great because they've had little use but are past their "expiration date". The tire manufacturers state that the tires age from the environment and become dangerous to drive on.
If you do a search on this Forum and the web I think you'll find the info.
GOOD LUCK!
Regards,
Alan
please ck tires age does matter on those things some day 5 some say 8 years if any doubts put new ones on regardless of tread on tire an ezploding tire can make a mess out of fibrglass
manufacturers say 6 years, I would replace if that old for sure unless all you did was move in/out garage or trailer but since you plan to drive it, new tires a must if over 6 years, all fluids no matter when last done...do it right and start at a point "you" know to be right and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy
Thanks for all the responses. The tires were just replaced as well as the rear calipers. The PO started the car once a month with the heater on to circulate the fluid through the heater core.
I think i will take the flushing of radiator and all fluid changes/chassis lube advice before driving it much. I bought it to tinker with as well as drive, so this is as good a place as any to start.
Once I get the car home I will take some photos and post -- its a 1973white with black interior -- 350 4 speed coupe.

Thanks again!
It's good the hear that you like to "tinker". There is always something on these older cars to repair or upgrade. You should be thankful that the previous owner gave the car some attention while the car was in storage. Good luck with the new ride.
