nice day outside so i decided to take her down the block for a little ride. After i got back to the garage and let sit for 2 or 3 minutes and tried to restart its as if battery was dead or dying cranked real slow and did not start. when i put it on jumper box it started right up and ran fine. the alternator is brand new and shows charging, battery is a 4 day old, new optima so i know that is not the issue. could starter be getting hot from those big a$$ headers i got on this thing? would that make it drag real hard and not want to start? oo ya headers are hooker super comp long tube

Mine would do this a few years back,
Make sure the ground from the engine block to the motor mount on the passenger side is there and has good connections (if your car had this form the factory, may be some were different on your car).
with noonie, check connections to, also check the main ground wire in the rear of the car to the frame.
Have you played with the timing recently? I had a Camaro once that after installing a new engine it started great and run incredible but had the same symptoms trying to start it after the engine was hot. Had to retard the timing and all was good
You didn't mention if the engine was stock or a build. Don't ignore what "SmokedTires" mentioned about timing, as put together a few early build's with to much cam for the package and needed more initial timing to run right. When the engine was warm, all that intial timing was fighting proper start up. To check for this, punch the accelerator a few time's before cranking, partially flooding the intake from the carb enrichment pump. This will delay a proper ignition mixture for a few crank's, getting the starter spinning.
you didnt mention which starter you have , the old oem one, i recently experienced same situation with a hot restart. starter dragged really bad. i purchased a new starter for a 98 chevrolet pickup 5.7 liter engine. auto with 168 tooth flywheel, its a 7lbs gear reduction mini starter (delco) no problems with it now, it starts no matter how hot it is. have my initial timing at 16°
I had some heat soak issues like this on my '74, with a new starter and headman elite headers. I put a jegs starter heat shield blanket on it and it starts every time now, no issues! You might want to try that.
I am using the stock starter but has always worked good. New Engine 480miles ago. never has run right but when cold pump carb twice hit the key start right up. and will idle forever
vid of starting engine here http://www.budgetpc.org/vette/IMG_0263.MOV but after you drive it really hard to start timming is set right as per edelbrock 14 deg initial. but the oddball to this whole mystery is why would just putting it on a jumper box make the starter spin fast and it instantly start up. it cranks real slow like a dying or dead battery but battery is good and alternator is good.....the gound strap wire is hooked up @ http://www.budgetpc.org/vette i have posted alot of pics of engine bay. I didnt want to spam message with alot of pics.
"why would just putting it on a jumper box make the starter spin fast and it instantly start up."
you have greatly increased the CCA of the battery, like having 2, those old starters become amperage HOGS, when the windings get heated up by things like exhaust pipes / headers. they'll turn but you have to feed them alot of amperage. like said before might try a starter heat shield / or wrap. or a gear reduction starter. or back off the timing.
