I know it has been discussed to death on this forum, but I'll ask again.
My '78 w/ 383 and the current 308 gear and T-350 tranny, looking for overdrive. Am I better off with the 200 and change the rear end gears or leave the gears and go with the 700? I am looking for better low end and lower RPM's at highway speed. If I go with the 200, what would be the best gear choice?
The 200 and 700 have such similar OD final ratio's you wouldn't notice the difference there. The difference between the two is really in the 1-2 ratios. I found a 3:36 rear with one of the OD transmissions a very good comprimise for low end and highway speeds. Basically you'll probably have to do both, the trans and rear to get what your looking for...
I would go with the 200, because its pretty much a direct swap in place of the TH350.
Its possible that the 2.75 low gear in the 200 will give you enough extra gearing to make you happy.
If you still dont feel like you have enough low gear, then worry about that.
