Default new rear window problems

I purchased a new rear window with defogger from windshields to go "you don't want to know how much" and had a local glass company install it. Called all local glass companies and no one could get the window. So this company came and installed it but an hour after they left the window shattered. They told me they cannot be responsable because they did not sell the glass and the supplier said the are just a supplier and could not warrany it. Where do I go now I'm a ton of money in this and still have a shattered rear window. Help!!!!!!!

Essentially, you are the contractor and it's your problem. You purchased the glass as a separate item; you purchased the install labor as a separate item. Neither sub-contractor is responsible for the failure of the glass due to installation. {unless you had a clause in the installer's contract that specifically assigns that responsibility...but, then, he wouldn't have taken the job...}

I had the car on my lift and needed to work on another car so I pulled it out with my skid steer and someone shot a hole in it.

For what it's worth, I found a back window in excellent condition for my '80 at a local auto dismantler. Paid $250 and then got a glass co to install it for $85.

Was the car insured ?
My company is a little weird they seem to love to spend money on glass. My agent told me years ago whatever the glass issue the company would most likely pay for it and so far they have even when its been my fault.
If its insured it couldn't hurt to ask.

On the breakage. They must have somehow put the glass in in a bind or set it on a screw or something like that.
Used glass can be a crap shoot ,windshields are a no no but I have never had a side or rear break on me.

Iceman59...

Sorry. Apparently, you expected me to pull out my 'crying towel' and join you in your misery. Actually, it is too bad that this happened to you; this certainly wasn't the result you had anticipated.

But why do folks not want to accept responsibility for their own problems anymore? Why would you expect that the glass supplier or the window installer would be responsible for a negative result in your plan when you didn't include that responsibility in any contract with them?

I hope you can find a decent [and affordable] solution.

The problem could have been with the installation. They might have glued it in with the window not squared. Might be worth having another shop take a quick look at it.

I didn't mean to pop off sorry man but just having the window shot out was a bummer and I didn't think ahead now I'm payint the price. The car was and is insured and I think I'll call my agent today
