Default p/s pump interchangeable?

Hi, can anybody tell me if a 1980 Corvette power steering pump has anything special about it? Can I go to a junkyard and take any p/s pump that looks the same, and use it? Is there anyplace on the internet where I can get info on parts interchangability? I am convinced that there are many parts that are not specific to corvettes, but as soon as you walk up to the parts counter and say "it's for a corvette...." the price goes double!!! If the p/s pump is identical to the the pump that came on a 1980 Caprice, why should I pay more for it, just 'cuz it's for a 'vette!

Some of the pulleys are different and the necks on the P/S reservoirs are different heights.

You may want to read Jim Shea's paper on the subject of Corvette pumps. I recall the Corvette pumps are lower pressure because of the ram assist system as opposed to an integral assist system.
