Ok - I was having my power window on my 71 conv not go up all the way. So I decided to change the regulators - just finished installing the new ones.
And I am still having the same problem with it not going all the way up. I have the stoppers on the track adjusted all the way up and the rollers are not making it to the stoppers. So it must be the motor..right??
Does it move any if you keep hitting the button? Make sure it isn't binding up. Does it stop at the same place each time?
Yes - it is moving a little more up when I keep hitting the button.. - it is stopping at the top at the same place though. Everything is new as far as the regulator and all tracks have been cleaned and greased. Just doesnt want to go all the way up..
Every electric motor I've ever seen either worked or didn't work. If your window *suddenly* stops I would definitely look further for a binding obstruction (duh). If it *gradually* comes to a stop it is possible you may have a weak motor. This would be unusual but possible.
It is odd that it stops at the same spot each time. I would investigate further.
I have noticed that it might be binding on the plastic bushing that is at the front of the window - the plastic cap. I have seen 2 different diagrams where the bushing head is on the inside of the window and another where the bushing head it on the outside. It does look like it is hitting on that busing cap which is on the outside...
so.. should the bushing head be on the outside of the window or the outside..
if it stops with the door closed it could be interference with the weatherstripping.
check the regulator/motor setup on the workbench to see if anything is binding. if the gear does not move freely it may be that the tab that holds the gear in alignment with the motor pinon may bee pushing too hard on the gear and binding.
if someone could provide a pic of that bushing and the cap in action where it actually is working that would be a HUGE help!!! I am thinking that bushing/ cap help stabilize the window when its up..

It is stopping when the door is open - I have all the weather stripping on the door - unscrewed and pulled to the side
Hi U,
I'm really unfamiliar with power windows.
BUT, it sounds tome like something is binding somewhere.
I'd loosen ALL the bolts on the mounting bolts for the tracks so they can move slightly, including the short track that's on the fourth arm of the regulator.
I'd then cycle the motor to see if you can make the regulator move the window any higher.
If that doesn't give you a clue I'd note how close together the upper regulator arms are, (the ones in the track on the glass), and then take the regulator back off and cycle it off the door to see if it can move the arms move closer together. If it does something in the tracks, or the way the tracks are mounted, is stopping the window from going up.
Quite a puzzle!
Regards,
Alan
