Default Torque / Stall Converter Issue

1975 Corvette. 350 crate motor. 3-speed T400 auto. Under gentle acceleration from 0 to 50 mph, the car appears to stay in second gear and the revs at 50 mph reach 2500+. I compare this to my stock standard 74 model, and it chages into 3rd and revs at 1600 or so at 50 mph. Does this suggest that I have some kind of torque or stall converter fitted? Please assist. PS: I have had the T400 serviced - bands adjusted, new fluid, etc. Andrew

Sounds more to me that your vacuum modulator is defective, not getting good vacuum, or needs to be adjusted (if it's a B&M style unit with an adjusting screw)

Thanks for that. I will inspect the modulator. How much vacuum should it be getting at idle, at 1500 rpm, etc? Where should the vacuum line be attached - carby or manifold? Is the modulator easy to replace or is this a major op? Will I need to drop the pan? Andrew
