Default Air vent cables

I have a '69 W/O Air.
I'm installing the cables that go from the console to the fresh air doors.
Does someone have a pic showing where and how the cables are mounted at the heater control?
I believe they are mounted to the front console support but I don't know which hole is used or how they are positioned. I looked in my AIM, but the pic is fuzzy and vague.
Thank you in advance.

Hi sv,
I'm not sure just what you're asking.... the 2 cables from the fresh air doors connect to the 2 levers on the front corners of the shifter console.
The heater control wheel cables connect to: one, the heat/ cold door in the heater box; and two, the floor/defroster door in the heater box.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan

I'm sorry I was not more clear.
Where the cable mounts at the air door, the black sheath(cable housing) has a plastic tab that accepts a single screw to secure it behind the kick panel. Now at the other end, where the wire cable,in the sheath, attach's to the lever, there is another tab with a single hole for a screw and I am trying to find out where this second tab attach's to.
I believe these tabs attach to the consoles front support but they are quite stiff(the cables) and I want to orient them properly so there is no binding.
Thank you for your time!
Mark

Hi Mark,
You're right... those cables are VERY stiff.
The clearest drawing I can find is the one in the Corvette Central catalogue. It's in the heater section. It shows the vent cables and the heater control cables. If you don't have their catalogue their site could well have the same drawing.

Alan

Hello sly vette,
I am putting my vette back together slowly. I believe they are mounted to the console with a sheet metal screw. In the AIM sec 1
E10. Here is a photo showing how I am going to mount the cables.

Thanks for your replys, guys.
These are really tough to manipulate!
I guess I'll have to put my "Monkey Fingers" to work.
I really don't like this kind of dash work, but ya' gotta' do what ya' gotta' do!

Alan,

The picture is from a 1970 W/O air. It's a replacement console. Pass it along as needed...it's nice to be able to help others with their problems!

I agree. I didn't think anyone would have that pic. This place is a great for things like that.
I assume that the connections at the console are made first and then at the air doors?

sly vette,

That's correct, you might even have to raise the console and take the cover plate off the top. One of the screws is under the air valve. If you still have the orginal console I believe they are machine screws.

good luck

Thanks, Ron.
The entire dash and console are apart. Not much of this car is original. Simply puting it back together the best I can with what I have.
Thanks again.

Default Thread resurrection - Cable Length

As I'm getting everything back together my vents aren't worki quite right. Are these cables different lengths? Or are they the same length for each side. Thank you.

Well that turned into an easy fix.. these things are adjustable... who knew. If any one else comes across this thread the plastic sleeve in the middle of the cable serves a purpose (I suppose it's obvious)... you rotate it to shorten and lengthen the cable as appropriate... first thing on this car that has been easy...
