Quick oil pump question

When bolting the pump in, is it advisable to put a bit of permatex between the mating surfaces, or not? (or does it even matter)

I always thought the surfaces should be bare, but I just pulled an old pump off of a motor and someone had used some permatex in there at one point.

Opinions either way?

The mating surfaces should be normal to each other and provide sufficent sealing.

Yes....I must admit, I use the non-hardening stuff on there. But I dont place a bead......I barely wipe a very thin amount with my finger so it doesnt squeeze into the pump upon tightening.

Any additional sealant in that splitline will increase pump gear clearance and reduce pump performance. Maybe not to much.....maybe...

Metal on metal. You don't want glue dripping around into the galley that goes directly into the bearings.

Hope your driving the pick on while its attached to the rear main cap as we have had to replace some rear caps before because guys have done this.
