My 74 Vette has a mechanically driven tachometer. It doesn't work. The distributor is an aftermarket Excel model 30100T, which seems to be obsolete; it doesn't appear any longer in reference books. My observations are that the tach drive gear is pretty well toast. Although the main drive gear hasn't been removed, I suspect it is too. While the parts people say it won't be difficult replacing the main gear, finding the tach drive gear is another story. Can anyone help me with locating the necessary part so that the tachometer will function properly.
Thanks.
Fox
BTW, the car runs beautifully with the existing distributor; I just want the tachometer to work.

I would guess that it's the same for all tach drives. Eckler's, Zip, Corvette Central, all will carry that gear. Good luck, it's nice to have a working tach.
i have a 74 too with tach problems...mine is the tach cable breaks inside the tube because i run such a high advance that it hits the fire wall but thats probable not your problem.... what main gear is not working? the one in the dist. or the gears in the actualy tach?
