Default Help With Mechanical Driven Tachometer

My 74 Vette has a mechanically driven tachometer. It doesn't work. The distributor is an aftermarket Excel model 30100T, which seems to be obsolete; it doesn't appear any longer in reference books. My observations are that the tach drive gear is pretty well toast. Although the main drive gear hasn't been removed, I suspect it is too. While the parts people say it won't be difficult replacing the main gear, finding the tach drive gear is another story. Can anyone help me with locating the necessary part so that the tachometer will function properly.

Thanks.

Fox

BTW, the car runs beautifully with the existing distributor; I just want the tachometer to work.

I would guess that it's the same for all tach drives. Eckler's, Zip, Corvette Central, all will carry that gear. Good luck, it's nice to have a working tach.

Have you made this adjustment?

You can get reproduction stock tach drive distributors.

Have you checked the cable to ensure it's good?

75-77 vette has electronic tach, and far better/reliable than any mechanical POS....

do what I did 15 years ago....switch it out...and never look back...

I got lucky and swapped my old mechanical drive points dizzy for one with the local vette shop owner....
