Default Engine???

Hate to sound like a dummy, maybe I am and not comprehending what I read, but My vette is a '73 stock 350 195 hp. I don't think it is a L48 or a L82 ( what are they anyway). So what do they call mine? LT1? LT4 ??? Please help and I will know forever. Thanks

L48 at 190hp
Engine suffix code on stamp pad would be:
CKZ manual
CLA automatic
CLB manual California
CLC automatic California

Hi mos,
The engines were often known by part of their option code on the build sheet. For example the option code for a 454 engine with 365 hp was 1VLS5AA. We know this as an LS-5 engine. The famous L-88 engine was listed as 2L88AA.
The standard 350/270 engine in my 71 was listed a 1VZQ3AA, but was known as an L-48.
I think you can refer to your base engine as an L-48 too.
Regards,
Alan

PS: Sorry to be late to the dance... I was looking up a couple of codes to post!

L48 but if it is stamped Mexico then I would assume it to be an after market block.

If you look at your 'vette's VIN, for a '73 the 5th character should be either a J,T, or Z. J=L48, T=L82, Z=LS4. If the numbers stamped on the block match up with the VIN, that should be all you need to know.
