Holley Float question - supposed to be liquid inside the float?
I have a Holley 4160 carb and I was just looking at the secondary float and I noticed it was filled maybe 1/4 with liquid? I didn't see how it could get in there if it wasn't supposed to be, and I couldn't find a way to get it out without drilling a hole. It looks like it supposed to be there as it looks like there are 4 chambers that the fluid can move around to inside the float. Thanks in advance.

There is not suppose to be any liquid inside of the float. what happens is that over time a small pinhole will develope in the welding and allow fuel to get inside. Time to replace the float.

do you have the center hung white plastic float, and secondary plate instead of a metering body you need a nitrophyl float #116-3. if you have a metering body with removable jets you can use brass float # 116-2. if you have the side hung float you need part # 116-4 :chevy

The float should not have any fluid in it. If the float gets too much it won't "float". It will cause you fuel level to be too high leading to flooding, surging, and all sorts of carb woes. Replace it!

The float is supposed to "float". It is designed that way to keep your car running consistently. The amount of fuel in the "float bowl" directly affects performance. Too much fuel, runs rich....too little, runs lean. The needle seat assembly is the "door" that the float controls. There has to be just the right amount of fuel going (seeping) through the door for your car to run properly. It is a critical part of the carb. If the float leaks, it doesn't work the way it was enginnered to work so....toss it. Don't try to fix it....buy another.
