i was in contact with these people trying to find out if they had a 80 corvette application . they had no idea whetehr they did or not:mad . so after a few emails, they finally told me that they indeed did not have a 80 corvette brake caliper application :boxing . does anyone know why this is or is it like all the other company and they just don't know what is going on and don't care to find out:confused:
I've been talking with them for a few years now about this. It seems to me that there is a reasonable market for such a product and one that I would like to tap. They tell me that the biggest reason for not designing a kit was that there are significant manufacturing inconsistencies in the factory spindles. So much so that they couldn't design a bracket that would bolt-on and perform consistently. With all that said, the last time I spoke with them they where working on a kit for C3's. It is going to be killer. I don't know what kind of details they want released so I'll have to keep my mouth shut, but you can be assured that it will be really good.
This months Chevy High Performance mag shows a 1st gen Camaro in their 0-100-0 shootout with Baer Brakes on it. They also show pics of it doing a 360` spin at 100mph when the rear calipers locked up  ! It seems the rear caliper was too big, bigger isn't always better. They do put out great kits that will hopefully one day offer us an option. Until then I keep my :chevy brakes :) .
Didn't I see a PT cruiser kit offered  ?
If anyone is interested I'm working on adapting Wilwood Ultralight 6 piston calipers to the front of the Vette.
My car only has 15" wheels so I won't be able to use 13" rotors but if someone wants to be a Gunea pig I could make a set for 13" rotors...
You'd have to buy 2 $300 calipers, pads and new hubs and rotors to make it work.
Vette brakes makes Aluminum hubs for ~$500 a pair, they come with 11.75" rotors that can be replaced with 13" ( or bigger ) bolt on rotors
I estmate about $1000 for parts to make it work. ( not all at once, I could start with one wheel )
BTW the Ultralights use a standard 3.5" mounting pattern which is shared by many other calipers, maybe even Baer ...
Yes Monty, they are working on a kit. The time frame was the middle to the end of this year but you know how development goes. Hopefully they will meet that but things will be good if they have it ready by next year at this time. We'll see.
I remember a recent thread that said somewhat had spoken with vette brakes and that they were considering or working on adapting the C5 caliper to the C3. That would be cool because then we could use any caliper upgrade that fits the C5. Even C5 calipers would be nice and since the C5 guys love to upgrade, they are probably readily available used.
Incidentally, I have no complaints about the wilwoods I installed in front. I only need to bend some brake lines to install the rears.
