I am getting my 1971 LS-5 ready for flight judging. so I am going over all the operations and trying to fix everything that is not working as delivered. one is the TCS. I was looking for parts on ebay and found this wire holder on the transmission. is this a factory style part or is it a fix, that some one just came up with.
Hi ls,
FD is right on about 71 cars having the CEC system
Its basically a system that controls idle rpm and vacuum advance based on engine temperature and gear selection.
There's also a timer involved that triggers the solenoid mounted on the right front of the carburetor to increase idle (about 300-700 rpm) for about 30 seconds when the car is started.
Here's a picture of that solenoid.
The operation is explained in the Operations section and Mechanical section of the Tech Manual and Judging Guide, and also in the Chassis Service Manual.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Hi ls,
Do you have the AIM and GM Chassis Service Manual?
Here's some pictures from my 350; since the bb is a Q-jet too the hoses are the same.
1 electrical connection and 4 hose connections. You can just see the wire for the electrical connection running along the driver's side valve cover.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The CEC (combination emission control) system includes the TCS componentry as one portion of that total system. {as evidenced by the TCS switch locations shown in the page following the excert shown above}
