1976 fuel guage reads 1/4 when tank is full?
Any suggestions on what is wrong with a fuel gauge that seems to work except that it only goes to about 1/4 when the tank is full? PO replaced fuel tank thinking that was the root of the problem. FYI, radio doesn't work, tach won't go above 1800 rpm. Related?

I had the opposite issue. Gage read full but there was not gas in the tank. Ended up being the bladder had pulled away from the side on the tank and was blocking the sending unit in the tank. If everything checks out I would take a look at the vacuum hoses to the tank. The steel line on the drivers side had rusted out.

I have to go with Resistor on this just from the title. If the resistor is blown, the highest reading the gauge will make is 1/4 tank.... Post back with what you find.
