With the VB&P March Madness sale going on, I've decided to take a closer look at their "Rack Attack" rack and pinion system.
My question is this: what's the difference between the small block and big block versions? If I buy a small block version for use with my current engine but eventually drop the 454 I have into the car, will there be some fitment / application issues?
Currently have an L48 1972 coupe. Would like to swap to a BB or an LS engine sometime in the not too distant future.
$974 sounds like a pretty good price for an R&P conversion?
Thanks.
EDIT: One more question. Rack Attack vs. Steeroids?
VB&P should be able to tell you the difference. Not trying to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what car the rack they use comes from? I would like to know in case I ever need to repair/replace mine.
The racks are from like a '92 Grand Am, winter 01-02 I did my conversion with a fresh junkyard rack....for a total of <200 bux....I have sketches of the mounts that have been there since, daily driven..can supply via email if wanted .....
the universals are reworked junkyard parts, mated up as necessary....
the tie rod ends are stock on both ends, the sleeves cut and lengthened via rods in middle and sleeve over top...stronger than OEM, really...
you will need some welding and fabricating ability...that much is obvious....
