Got short notice that I have the opportunity to get free labor when getting my TH400 rebuilt so I need to get a kit ordered and shipped very soon. I am looking for suggestions on a good kit to go with. Its going to be a total rebuild car and will be used for moderate spirited driving but not racing (cruise ins - day trips). This is for a 1971 Corvette with a 350.
If your trans shop will let you mix and match a kit, get all the rubber and paper for a TH 400, then all the steel/friction stuff for a 4L80. (other than the bands). The 4L80 stuff is thinner than the 400 so you can stack more into each clutch pack. The more friction surface you can get the better it holds. Make sure you keep clearance so nothing drags internally.
Spoke to them at CK and then did not get a call back...did finally get a kit ordered though...went through Mako and got the delux rebuild kit. Since I plan to put this car mechanically back to more or less OEM specs for power and performance this is really all I need I think, good quality to last but don't need it to handle 2000hp.
