Default Horn Frustration

I purchased a 77 with tilt/tele knowing the horn didn't work. When I dug deeper I found the horn contact was bolted together instead of being seperated by plastic, and the pin and spring were missing. No problem, I order fom Corvette Central...they were on backorder and just came in. I slid the spring and pin into the hole and they just dropped in...obviously something farther down is missing. Any recommendations on a steering wheel puller?

you don't need to pull the wheel. Do you have an assembly manual? there is a plastic keeper that holds the spring down. It twists and locks.

The plastic horn tower is part of the cancelling cam assembly. There should be a brass track on the underside of the cancelling cam. When you dropped the spring into the tower it should be resting on that track. Then the eyelet (pin with an upset head) with the upset head first. Then the plastic insulator to hold the parts in the horn tower.

You should be able to buy or borrow the locking plate compressor tool from most major automotive stores.

In the schematic you reference, what's the part letter MAD references? My horn doesn't work and after tracing, learned it was a combination of horn and horn contact assembly. Had the horn rebuilt but still doesn't work with the horn contact. Stopped working on it so this might encourage me to get back on it.

I think I need to pull the steering wheel because the problem is below the housing that the wheel blots too. I think the cancelling cam is damaged or missing. I've removed the retaining clip and nut, but the steering wheel /housing seems to be firmly attached. I don't thank the usual steering wheel puller that hooks under the steering wheel will work with the vette wheel that is bolted to a housing. Is there a special tool?
