Default Coolant Temp Indication

Two days ago was driving my 82 the first time after one and a half year. All indications were in the "green". Today the coolant temp indication was dead. I have an EBL installed and can see the water temperature there. It is responding to the sensor on the right front of the intake. Before I change the gauge I have a question: Are there some other connectors going to the gauge which I should check first? And is there a second sensor for the gauge? There are two more in the block, one should be the knock sensor.

Check the connection at the sensor in the drivers side head between spark plugs #1 and #3.

There is a sensor at this location in the head with one green wire on it. Is it the sensor for the gauge, is the other one only for the computer?
