My 77 has a small screw at both the left and right side of the gauge cluster..

you have to remove the side panels of the center console to access these screws..

you have to look UP from the bottom of the cluster to locate the screws..

Hope this helps.......

Are they screws or nuts on the studs at the bottom of Gauge cluster? My 72 has 2 nuts that attach cluster to center console, for me i removed the face plate and heater control panel to access. Took a nut driver, broke off the handle, it was just the right length to loosen the nuts. Hope this helps.....good luck.

Take the little side covers off the front ends of the tranny tunnel. You may have to use a flex-driver (like used to adjust carb idle jets) with a 7/16" socket on the end to get them started. Then use a small 1/4" drive ratchet to tighten them--not too much...just snug.

I think some tranny tunnels are made with slots in that front tunnel brace, so that you can just start the nuts, then slide the tunnel in place [and over those nuts], then snug them down.

I went to the local hardware and bought 2 nuts each about 1" long. I don't know what they are supposed to be used for but the extra length let me start them on the posts, slide then into the slots on the console and finish tightening them with an open end wrench. This has to be one of those things they pre-assembled at the factory and installed as a single unit.

Agree, I leave them off.

These two little nuts are from h**l for sure and should be used to train design engineers about making accessible and maintainable vehicles!

Raphiki, thoses nuts are called coupling nuts, I used these when I did some repair work on my console. I didn't have any problems putting the nuts back on and the extra length lets you get a wrench in there with no problem........... or at least I didn't have any trouble getting them on.

Put the nuts on the cluster first, then install.
