I know you are frustrated with the stock setup. I was going to do the same but never liked the look of the offset pins. There are some pretty neat setups available though. Which ones are you going with? Post pics when you are done.
Eh, put hinges in the back where the belong.....and do what is on some pix on one site or another below....done long time ago, and hood pins through the stock front hinges....
hinges I used off a Lumina mini van...
junkyard hunting....pleasant day, sunshine, and quiet....
Sorry but after 2 busted CHINA hood latch cables, i am not going to tollerate not being able to get under the hood again.
OH HELL, if that's you only problem, take the stock handle off, and string a coat hanger with a loop of vacuum hose over it inside for a grip to pull on, and loop it through the latch, and down to inside the fender, that way you can open from either location not that you will ever need to....it hangs down further forward and up higher so not to be easily seen....
I did that on my '72 many years ago, tired of messing with the old stock junk....

I'm picturing this in my head and this definitley does not sound like it would be anywhere near nice. just my opinion. there are plugs behind each of the hood latches that you have acess to from the wiper cowl area. push those through and put a screwdriver in to pop open hood ... but he wont need to do that bc he is going to do it right with hood pins and it will look nice and professional.... GO on and put hood pins
if you don't like them you can always refiberglass your hood or leave them open and help the engine breathe
I think the Hood Pins are a great idea. But not everyone does. I don't intend to be stuck again with a busted hood latch cable.
I am stuck between making them even or offset. I have seen them both ways and I really don't have a preference one way or the other.
Please post pictures when yours are done.
For sure Rick there will be pictures. Besides, its an 80 vette, its nothing special. Also i have a wiper cowl cover, so your not going to get to those rubber plugs.
Ok i got them drilled today, just the small holes left to do. It was a perfect fit, i cant believe how accurate i got the holes. Just painting the mounting brackets, and have found a way to mount the factory hood bumper springs.
