does anybody know the reason why one of my headlights refuses to come up all the way, i pull the switch and one comes up just fine' the other rises about 1.5" then falls til about 1" my guess is a vacuum leak but i dont know where to begin looking?????
There should be a myriad of hoses attached to the large diaphram that opens and closes the headlight. 1st suggestion would be to order a kit from doc rebuild that has all the hoses you need, they are all color coded for ease of installation and come with a really great color coded diagram. If that doesnt cure it then its probably the large diaphram. If you have some extra hose laying around you might be able to switch the diaphrams and see if the problem happens on the other headlight. Also the obvious is to look for a disconnected hose. 2nd I think there is a sticky on here about your headlights.
If you go to Willcox.com they have all the diagrams you need. On the left side of the site you will see a link for repair and install help. You also may want to put a little oil in each headlight diaphram to lube it up a little. Helped with my 79.
Hi W,
It sounds to me like the on the headlight actuator is leaking.
You can buy the seal and replace the one on the actuator now.
Using the trouble-shooting info from the 'sticky' at the top of this page and from Willcox is a good idea.
I'd hold off on ordering a hose set until you do a little testing as indicated in the trouble-shooting information . There are just 2 hoses that go to each actuator. A large green stripe hose to open it and a large red stripe to close it.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
just your typical 3 and 1 oil, a drop or two down the upper hole where the red hose connects. I did that and it helped quite a bit. Changed the seals and the petes is talking about and worked like a charm. both are very easy fixes.
