Tell you what I will do for you and save you headaches. I'll give my original TH400 tranny for the 2004-R. Deal?

Not yet, I am in China and have a few projects on the go.

I am confident the Bowtie guys are the ones to use though

I am going to do the 2004 r swap using Monster Transmissons Heavy Duty with 2300 stall. I have a 383 with stock trans and stock stall and it shifts around 1500 rpm. Won't even turn the tires. Free shipping and customer service seems pretty good so far. Should be able to reuse my cross member on my 78. http://www.monstertrans.com/store/
Can I modifiy my existing shifter with this set up or do I need additional parts?

Existing shifter will work fine.....3rd will be overdrive you can change the console plate, OR modify the shifter to show/move to first gear....

Yep...it's the notch at the back of the throw. Takes about 10 minutes. Everything on the indicator still lines up, however, 1st is below the 1 on the indicator and then 1st is actually 2nd, 2nd is 3rd and 3rd is actually 4th.
