That bypass/adapter combo IS the normal stock type deal. So, nothing wrong there if that's what you want. But the filter must seal up oil-tight to the block's oil filter gasket surface. Take a look at that and see what's going on there. Is there any chance that the particular filter you are using is somehow bottoming out on the adapter and then not sealing up against the block properly?

It's possible it may be bottoming out, there's a pretty thick gasket on it (only one, checked for that) and I can crank it down pretty good but can't really get a good line of sight to see if it's seating fully.
I just took it off and the filter didn't blow it's gasket or anything and the leak is definitley coming from here.
Going to try cleaning both mating surfaces well before putting it back on.. wish me luck!
I'm not sure what that particular filter's threaded area looks like. Does the threaded area protrude outward? If so, then it will bottom out sooner, and is almost certainly your problem. If that is indeed the case, then get a filter that has a more level threaded area, rather than protruding. That difference will buy you some clamping distance.

The one I have is actually flat across the top. I was thinking of getting one with the protruded threads since this one has score marks about 1/4 inch out from the threads.
I have no idea guess it'll just be trial and error.
Is the plug in the block above the oil filter. This is where my oil Temp sending unit is located on my 1982. If this is a small block, install a ACDelco PF1218 it will fit all the way up to my last block made in 2006 330 HP.
The PF454 has scoring lines just outside of the threads in the center, this indicates to me it is indeed bottoming out.
So what I need is a different filter, any suggestions?
The adapter requires special bolts that clear the filter. Otherwise it will not seal against the block correctly. I ended up buying them a a local dealer.
