Does anyone have pictures of the foam collar installed? I've found a bunch of threads discussing it, but no pictures. I understand the general placement, but I'm curious exactly what it looks like installed. Thanks.
I just stuffed mine inbetween the housing and trans tunnel.I would take a picture but you can't see it.you can work it above the bellhousing without removing anything. It really helps with all that heat.
Hi 72,
On my 71 sb I put the collar where it's shown in the AIM.
The rear face of the collar is about even with the heavy seam between the firewall and the underbody.
UPC 1, Sheet A2 and B7.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan
According to my AIM 76 vette the collar is glued to the bellhousing 2.38" (approx 2-3/8") from the bellHousing face to the foam face. The instruction is located on sheet 15 in the undercoating section of the aim - towards the front.
i glued mine to the upper tunnel with contact cement. 79
BINGO...a picture is worth a thousand words. There is no need to use any glue, start by slowly pushing the foam collar behind the distributor. Be sure to clear all lines and hoses as you go. Once it is in place, it won't go anywhere. Remember, the purpose of the collar is to keep heat from the interior through the trans tunnel. It also helps keep the transmission cooler and heat is a killer on transmissions. Good photo, but you need to put the collar in after you have the transmission bolted to the block. Notice, the collar blocks access to the bolts, hence it goes in last.

i had no problem installing the bolts, its a little further back than it looks in the pic. i glued it in because>> what happened to the original one???? probably rotted out. well its not going anywhere...... and the interior is much cooler. installed it and more floor insulation mat.
Hi CP,
I believe the collars lasted at least through the 72 model year. The 71 AIM indicates it went on all cars regardless of transmssion choice.

Alan

Iam about to install a foam collar my self but just wondering if the wider section of the foam goes towards the starter motor side or the oil filter side ? i know once it is in place it probably will not matter but would like to know before installing. thank-you

The thick side goes on the drivers side, at lease it worked out that way on my 68, remembering that the engine is off set to the passenger side with a bigger gap on the left.
