So you heard about it too. It would be nice but it will only offer voice directions, and crash assistance (god forbid one should need it) It cannot slow down your vehicle if it is stolen. I don't think it is worth it being on a vehicle as old as ours.
Carry a pre-paid cell 'phone and grab a year for $100.00. These cars don't have crash sensors, no sensor for stolen vehicle, and if you don't know where you are going....I don't see the point of OnStar.
Spend the $300 on a good Navigator unit and a Wal-Mart cell phone (plus $100 pre-pay so it will cover emergency needs for the next year). It's a much better deal and you don't have to install that 'bulky' mirror.
Actually, if you listen to the video on Onstar you'll find that the mirror has the cell phone , crash sensors and stolen vehicle location components in it. If you get into a crash in a C3, since you don't have airbags, what do you think the likely hood is that you'll be able to find your cell phone and make a call? The cost benefit analysis is another thing. Since my vette isn't a DD at this point, I don't think the cost benefit is there. Now on my wifes Stratus...I just might. This is kind of like a motorcycle helmet. If you get into trouble and need it and don't have it, that could be a problem...

Of course your wifes Stratus does have airbags. But you make a point there is one thing the mirror offers that the cell phone doesnt and thats the crash reporting. On the other hand for crash reporting $500 the first year and $200 each year thereafter not including the cost for minutes for the cell phone feature.
The mirror offers no other service that cant be had much cheaper with a cell phone, lojack or nav system.

A trick little thing to do is, buy a prepaid phone, hardwire the cord and mount the phone under the dash with the phone turned on. If it is stolen have the phone tracked, or if you have a service that offers a tracker service subscribe to that for about 5 bucks a month. Guys on the left coast are doing that on thier customs. A lot cheaper than lojack.
