Guess I don't really know what I need for a 383 stroker. Different sizes, different construction. Or do I just ask the rotating assembly manufacturers' opinion?

To start with i am thinking it should be an 8" external balance unit. If your rotating was external balance.

You should ask for the builder's opinion. The dampers are balanced when manufactured (or, they are supposed to be). Their purpose is to dampen out 'uneven' power pulses during the rotation of an internal combustion engine. It needs to be matched to the harmonic vibration behavior of the engine. Your builder/balancer should make a recommendation. If no recommendation is made, install a good quality balancer for a Chevy SB engine.

Lots of Chinese made junk in the dampner markert. The smartest engine builder I know uses ATI dampners but he thinks Fluid Dampners (USA made only!) are pretty good too. He dosen't quite know what to think of the TCI "Rattler" I showed up with on my current build but. Comp Cams gave us a good deal on it and I want to try it (hoping it adds tot he harmonics of the motor)
