My 73 project started by just cleaning the interior of years of dust, dirt and spiders from being stored outside for the better part of 8 years
It has since turned into a complete interior gut and when taking off the pedal assy (it's a manual) I noticed bubbling rust on the outside support plate riveted to the firewall by the wipers. It is held in place by two rivets.
I have to replace the plate and since the rivets are visible, would like to use stock (appearing) fasteners. Does anyone have a source for the plate and more importantly, the rivets and method for installing them at home?
Hi C,
I'm not sure just which plate you're referring to.
Do you see it from the engine compartment, wiper well, or interior?
And are you seeing the head-end of the rivets or the 'set'-end?
Trying to help!
Regards,
Alan
If the plate is number 6 below.. then yes you can put standard rivets in there. It won't look factory but you can do it. Does anyone make that plate... Nope, I'm sorry there currently is not a reproduction. I think this could be fabricated up with little difficulty though. I may have a good used one, I'd have to check.
Hi c,
It looks like you might have enough room working from each side to set the rivet in the normal way with a 'buck', on the head side, and a hammer/large nail set, on the shaft side.

Alan
The factory rivets were a soft aluminum rivet.. they are very easy to install. If you want me to check for a good used one.. just email me at willcoxcustomerservice@willcoxcorvette.c om
