I'm also going with a T56 6 speed when I tackle that project. Gordonm, Is there a difference using the 06' GTO T56 compared to say 94-97 f body T56?
Yes there is a difference as said above. I went with the LS style hyd throwout bearing. Very easy setup and it works very well. I am using the stock LS bellhousing at the moment. The only thing I had to do was get a .400 inch spacer plate between the trans and the bellhousing so the measurement were correct. The Quick time bellhousing is all setup so you do not need the spacer if you go that route. If you want more info on this let me know. It is definitly not a bolt up operation nut once done is a great setup. The older T56s are different than mine.

Thanks for the info Guys! Gordonm, I'm still looking for a good deal on a T56. If I get my hands on a later model unit, I'll hit you up for some more info on it.

No problem. If you are ever down this way stop by and have a look.
I have the TKO-600RR (0.82 OD) behind a healthy 383 sb.
The ratios are very well spaced for spirited driving.
Each up shift drops the rpm right into the meaty part of my power band (3000~6000).
The OP's 3.36 diff ratio will work very well seeing he runs a big block.
The TKO-600 is rated at 600 lbft, so is well suited for the big block.
The up shift 2~3 is only awkward when you force it. I find the best method is let the box guide the shift through the gate. Just apply upward movement and let the strong spring which locates the shifter in the 3~4 plane do the work.
Works well for me.
