....always on the second. and even then sounds a little labored.
give me some stuff to try. i have already tried...
choke adjustment
varying amounts of throttle stabs before key
timing tweaks
new vac adv can
new dist springs
it always starts and idles pretty good. the choke operation seems normal. i can just never get a nice healthy start up from one key stroke. i may be nit-picking but something is not quite right....
before you try and start your car tomorrow .take the air cleaner off, look down the carb ,by hand pump the carb to see if you have fuel.if you do then take another old spark plug .put it on any plug wire that is easy to get to .let the plug touch a gound on the motor some where .then turn the key to check spark.let us know what you have found.

No doubt there is fuel. Triple checked that. Big fat squirt when throttle is applied. I have not pulled the plug to try because I have the stock wire looms and they are a bitch to get at. I guess Ill dig in and look into that next....
Cant wait to try in the morning....what's the theory ?
Pertronix techs told me the units that use the dist cam instead of the add on wheel needs to charge momentarily before cranking.
Was yours the easy installation, just install the module?

Yes. It is that style. I did not put it in. The previous owner did. I have an edelbrock rpm intake, a msd corvette billet dist, and a new blaster coil ready to install but I wanted to diagnose this before I added more variables.
I've only installed one of that type,I didn't notice the glitch but after a few days the customer brought it to my attention. It was as though there was no spark. I called Pertronix and they told me how to start it and it worked. I wasn't happy but the customer said he was OK with it so I left it alone.Customer said later on it only had the problem after sitting for a long time.
I hope pausing in the ON position works for you.
Hummmmm.............. Interesting, mine is doing the same thing. Right after I installed the "Pertronix" I noticed that it is really finicky about starting, almost like it wants to flood.
Really annoying, not to mention embarassing when people are watching you starting it!
Thanks for that bit of information Roger.
Steve
Ok I know the start your looking for and you can do a bunch of stuff or you can learn how to start the car.
#1 Hasnt been started Normaly two pumps hit the key almost before it starts let go of the key the battery will send the extra juice to the coil giving it a boost and the car should start, its the knowing when to let off of the key that gets the quick start.
#2 motor warm or hot NO gas hit key half a turn Boom should fire right up again its knowing when to stop turnig the starter work on that to get your quick start.
And its a gimme the car needs to be tuned.
Try it you will see what I mean. I can start my Porsche with half of a turn of the fly wheel. the Vet 3/4 and shes running. Its in the key

let me know if it worked for you. seemed to help mine.....fired right up !
Ok, I started it cold, drove to the hardware store, came out and started it hot. Both times I turned the key on, buckled my seatbelt and then started the engine. Both times it fired right up. NO Problem!! But now I'm worried about all that extra juice and where it's going.................
