How much turbulance is actually introduced to the main pipe flow when you add a Y-pipe bypass (via a cut-out valve) that is heavily muffled? Is it really noticable?

Let me rephrase my question... If I have OEM side exhaust and added a bypass to muffle sound, would the bypass piping (when closed and not being used) affect the normal flow of exhaust?
Insignificant change. The closed off pipe section would become somewhat of a stagnant 'accumulator' for gases. It might actually smooth-out/mellow the sound from the side pipes.
