Hey everybody, first question on my laundry list. New to me 71 coupe. I am going to have a bunch of work ahead correcting bubba's electrical emporium.
1st question. Wipers do not work. There is a problem with the vacum, headlights work and there is vacum but i think the hoses may be attatched incorrectly or something. If I swap the hoses on the actuator on the firewall the wiper door opens, reverse it and the door closes. If I turn the wiper switch on with the door open I can hear an audible click, so the wiper is getting power right? Sound like just a bad wiper motor? I do not have any of the vacum, electrical diagrams yet. Soon hopefully.
Check the Wilcox website or search Wilcox on this forum. He has some great vacuum diagrams to check all your hoses. Also, Im just down the road from you near Winona, MS. Maybe we will be able to get together some time.

Sounds like a plan. I will check wilcox. I would love to get together sometime! May be a little while before I can bring the vette out though! Needs a little work before I can get it registered. Unfortunately because I live in the city limits of memphis where all of our vehicles are beautiful and clean, I have to pass inspection. which means my wipers and parking brake have to work!
I wouldn't dare being one of those unsafe drivers that did not have working wipers. Can you imagine the chaos that would occur?
Make certain that the "wiper override" switch (the round **** between the two pull-down vacuum switches just below the steering column) is turned to the ON position. If that switch is rotated to the OFF position, the wiper motor won't operate. It is intended to be used when you need to change wiper blades.

WOW. Wiper override switch turned to on=wipers work!
Hi j,
Even though you had success with this problem, there will probably be more puzzles in your future.
If I may I'll suggest you consider buying the 71 factory AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual), and the 71 GM Chassis Service Manual. These 2 books will be your close companions as you get to know your 71. Many of the larger venders sell them and they're well worth the money.
How about some pictures of your car?!?
Regards,
Alan

Hey Alan,
I posted pics in the general section under a separate thread. I will be getting both manuals, but while I wait...
You're not kidding about all of the "new" problems. I have only been under the hood for a day and I think this one will keep me busy.

I'm seriously thinking of making this the first line in the help page for the wiper motors. I can't tell you how many times customers have brought cars in for wiper service because of the switch.
