454 rebuild Engine noisy
All parts are stock short of the pistons only because i couldn't find the stock piston. Same dome height, a “slight” bit more compression. Pistons are Summit P# SLP-L2399NF30. We put in a new high volume oil pump. We did mic everything before the rebuild and all was well within spec. New main and rod bearings, new timing gears and chain, new stock spark plugs gapped at 0.035", new motor mounts, new fuel pump. The oil pressure at start up is almost 70psi, once warm runs at about 50psi. I never put less than 93 octane in the car but i currently do have octane booster in with the 93 octane gas for the first time ever. The timing and points were never touched and put back at the exact location as they were prior to the rebuild. This rebuild was not done by a shop, me and my "mechanic" brother-in-law did the rebuild. He has rebuilt all kinds of engines, from Harleys, snowmobiles to cars, and I mean a lot of them. That certainly doesn't make him a reputable mechanic but is better in my mind than a shop that i don't have lots of experience with. I have not checked the timing yet as we just got it together and i have only test driven it once. I did listen more closely last night and it seems to be coming from under the car so i suspect maybe an exhaust leak between the manifolds and pipe. I did notice that there is exhaust gas coming out of those connections on both sides of the car. Not convinced that is it though.

You are running open chamber pistons with closed chamber heads.
Those pistons have such a small dome that they usually clear, but if you run out of easy things to check you may look into piston to chamber clearance issues.
