Default distributor conversion

I have 71 with a mechanical drive for the tach, and single points. Can I get a conversion to transistor type of ignition? I would prefer to keep my own distributor, and just install conversion into distributor with maybe a module and coil change.

Thanks
Bob

There are few conversions availible for the stock tach drive distributor, I used the Mallory Unilite for several trouble free years. You can get them from Summit or Jegs etc.

I've been considering conversion myself. This site (under "Breakerless") has an option to consider. Good luck...

I installed two different petronix conversions and both failed. I went back to points set up properly and a good dist curve. I use the Mallory 102 points and set the dwell at 30 degrees. With the proper timing and the dist. set up correctly, it runs very well. I did could not tell any difference between the petronix or the points. I know that I can trust the points.

I also went the Mallory Unilite conversion about two years ago. Have not popped the cap since.

Love it.

I too went with the original Petronix. I didn't care for it, and the way it was on under the dist cap...I was always afraid it would give out on me. It didn't but I decided to order a Mallary Unilite Billet Tach Drive Dist and go that route. Of course its a lot more expensive, but now I feel I have worry free operation (Knock on wood). I haven't heard much about the Petronix II sys...but have heard some people have good luck with the mallory conversion...its been around a long time.
