Default Wheel Size?

Hi guys,

Just bought this '69, and I want to put some wheels on it, probably Torq Thrust D's. I know the original wheels are 15x8, but I'm wondering if 15x10 will fit on the back without looking stupid? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to have to modify the rear t-arms by moving the ebrake mount from behind the tire, to top of the arms, allowing 3/4" more room to the inside, and then of course outside, the wheels should be 17-18" not the old 15" you can't get desirable rubber for a 15" wheel anymore....
or your choices are SO limited you buying wheels, maybe as well update to something useful....

now as to style/price, to each his own....I bought a set of used '89 vette wheels....had a set of VBP 2.5" thick wheel adaptors on there....they are NOT spacers, but machined from solid good aluminum billet...and so are strong, with removing TEN lug nutz to get to the rotors...different animal than that junk your see from Mr, Gasket..cast potmetal crap....

so there are several things to watch for, and clearing the calipers in number ONE, then that ebrake cable mount, you will find wider wheels will most likely limit the steering radius in front, assuming you have the same size rims all around....like I do...

Honestly i am starting to get tired of aftermarket wheels and the over inflated prices of them. I like the look of your car the way it is. I left the stock wheels on mine because they were in nice shape. Yes there is better tire tech in the bigger sizes, but hell for what i do with my C3 the 255/60/15 are plenty good. You car your choice, but the stock rally wheels look greta on your car.

A 15" Torq Thrust D will hit the brake caliper. Not sure about the 17".

Interesting. There was a '69 on Ebay recently that appeared to have 15's on it.

It could have been an original Torq Thrust from the '60s, or they may have used spacers or machined the back of the wheel or caliper.

Quite possible. The other style I am considering is the Cragar SS.

I have Halibrand 15x8 5-spokes on my '71. They look like the Torq Thrust but fit fine out of the box.

Here's some wheel information you might want to read and then determine if your wheel choice will fit.

I went with old school Appliance wheels.
They fit without spacers.

Heres a pic of mine with cragars 72 with cragars
I had to use a 1/2" spacer behind the rear and frt wheels to clear the calipers.
I like the look but not wild about the spacers. I plan on putting longer studs in. I think they still have enough threads without adding new studs but not going to take that chance.

Here are the Appliance wheels compared to D's
Notice the back plate is beveled on the Appliance wheels, which makes them clear the calipers.

Hope it helps.
