Default 1980 Qjet question

Hello all,
I have a 1980 with the original Qjet. The problem I have is, if I stomp on the gas the car accelerates fine at first then seems to have a stall and wont pull at all. If I gently accerate it will will pull hard untill you get way past 80.I guess I need to know a few things to check, just a few hints would be appreciated.
Thanks

Rob

A few ideas to check.
Carb float level too low
Weak fuel pump/low fuel pressure
plugged fuel filter/plugged sock in tank
kinked "S" hose for the fuel pump inlet at the frame

I think 75 is right, look for a fuel issue. when the 4 bbl's kick in on wot it sounds like your running out of gas. i would also look for dirt or cloged secondarys inside the carb. depending on how long it has been sence the last rebuild it might be time for a carb soak and cleaning.

In order of probability: clogged fuel filter in carb inlet housing; kinked rubber fuel line at fuel pump area (likely if you have done work in that area recently...less likely if you haven't); float level set too low in carb (or some other mechanical problem in the carb that causes fuel flow to shut off prematurely); plugged up sock filter in fuel tank; nearly failed fuel pump not producing enough flow for WOT function.

Seems to me you have a fuel flow rate problem - okay at low demand but NFG for high demand. Previous suggestions are good, but also check tank is venting adequately - causes same symptoms.

Add to the above...

Check the tension on the secondary air valve - if it's too loose, you will have a huge bog!

On furthur thought, could be HEI related. Hard accel generates the most demand on ignition so could be coil or dwell control module.

Another fuel thing, is these carbs have secondary accelerating well tubes and main well bleed tubes for emusifying secondary fuel - both are known to fall out (pressed fit)! Seen that on a few carbs.

I have the same problem with mine - I'll be troubleshooting as well (as soon as I install the new radiator!) Please post what you find, and I'll do the same.
